Let it Snow, let it snow, let it snow

Look at the web cams. There is white gold on the ground. There is something about that first snow fall that just gives me a big ole woody. All the leaves are covered up, it is brighter outside, my plow is buried out in the back yard and I will probably slip and fall on my ass at some point today.  But we got our first snow anyway.

Now let’s have the sun come back out and melt all this shit so I can get the rest of the yard stuff done before the real snow flies.

Weather: 30’s and a few inches on the ground

I have the little house open for rent this winter. $100 a night for up to 3 people, $125 a night for 4-5 people with a 3 night minimum.

Back to the Grind

OK it is time to get back to work.  At least that is what my checkbook is telling me LOL. Come on Mother Nature make it start snowing, my checkbook is in the red. I guess Becker and I should not have taken off for 4 days, but I don’t regret it, we had to get away. A little R&R helps a lot but I guess now it is time to start making some money. I bought a bigger freezer and filled it up with Beef and Buns and cheese, so I guess I better start selling some of that stuff TODAY.  Beef is what’s for dinner, come on in and get yours today……….

Weather: 30’s come on Mother Nature send some of that white stuff our way.

Home Sweet Home

AHHHh There’s no place like home. It was great getting away for a few days but it is even better being back home.  Copper Harbor was dead and I think Monday we may have been the only ones staying in a motel up there. But it was nice and peaceful and Becker and I really enjoyed getting away. (bring a 2 to 3 prong adaptor along).

Tuesday night we drove to the Casino and stayed for “FREE”. Not exactly, but we had fun there too. Becker got her whirlpool tub and she had a good soak. The machines we not good to us, but I blame that on my Uncle Dale. He won a big one last week so I guess the rest of us have to suffer. I didn’t get much in the way of pictures, only one was Becker doing her nails in the truck on the way up. The weather was shitty the whole time and Becker was coming down with a cold so we didn’t take the SxS out. But I’ll go back, probably drive to Hancock and then ride north from there. But that will probably be next year, when it gets a bit warmer.

Snow forecasted for Friday

Weather: Mid 40’s and a 50% chance it will not rain

Trail Conditions: Mud hole on the P trail north of the Norwich use VC trail

I think we are headed home today. Becker is coming down with a pretty bad cold and the weather is not good for her to be out in. We had a few nice relaxing days up here, met some real nice people. It’s all about enjoying the simple life up here.

I rode the SxS less than 10 miles, it looks like they have a nice trail system looking at the map though. I was on forest roads or rail beds I think from where I rode. It was 50 degrees yesterday but felt a lot colder. Otherwise I would have put on a few more miles.

Snow is on the way for Friday, gotta love it.

A bald man with a wooden leg gets invited to a Halloween Party. He doesn’t know what costume to wear to hide his head and his leg, so he writes to a costume company to explain his problem.

A few days later he received a parcel with the following note:

Dear Sir,

Please find enclosed a pirate’s outfit. The spotted handkerchief will cover your bald head and, with your wooden leg, you will be just right as a pirate.

Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co.

The man thinks this is terrible because they have emphasized his wooden leg and so he writes a letter of complaint. A week goes by and he receives another parcel and a note, which says:

Dear Sir,

Please find enclosed a monk’s costume. The long robe will cover your wooden leg and, with your bald head, you should really look the part.

Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co.

Now the man is really upset since they have gone from emphasizing his wooden leg to emphasizing his bald head, so again he writes the company another nasty letter of complaint.

The next day he gets a small parcel and a note, which reads:

Dear Sir,

We have TRIED our very BEST.  Please find enclosed a bottle of molasses and a bag of crushed nuts.  Pour the molasses over your bald head, pat on crushed nuts, stick your Wooden Leg up your ass and go as a caramel apple.

Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co.

Quiet in Copper Harbor

Weather: Rainy but out of town for a few days.

Trail Conditions: Mud hole on the P trail north of the Norwich use VC trail

I have the little house open for rent this winter. $100 a night for up to 3 people, $125 a night for 4-5 people with a 3 night minimum.

We didn’t get off to a good start on our mini vacation. No one was around the Motel we were going to stay at in Calumet. I called the number on the door 3 times and we waited around for a few hours but no call back, so we drove to Copper Harbor.

Copper Harbor only has one place open for breakfast and one place open for dinner. Our motel does not get local channels so we were not able to watch the Packer game.  I went to the bar and watched it until half time though. The bartender told me the local cable company was going out of business and everyone will have to go with satellite TV. The internet speed up here is a whopping .25gbps to I may be back in Bergland on Thursday before this actually uploads to the website LOL. Oh, and they have no gas either. Or cell phone service.

All in all we could piss and moan or just kick back and enjoy the UP on our own. I’m sure most of the businesses are doing the same thing we are doing, getting away for a bit before hunting and snowmobiling season starts. The UP is not the best place if you need amenities to enjoy yourself. But if you don’t mind just kicking back and making your own fun you will never find a more beautiful place. I went to bed at 10pm last night watching Grumpy Old Men, Becker was already in bed. I woke up at 5am, outside is a nice gentle rain, not sure how much riding we are going to do as I didn’t fill up the SxS before we got here. You think I would know better after living up here 8 years. But we really didn’t have any specific plans, we just wanted to get away. Not sure what we are going to do today, Sleeping beauty is still in bed snoring away. But in her defense it is only 6:15am.

I’m going to get a cup of coffee and a smoke and go sit outside under the eave and watch it rain. Later today I may go back to Hancock and get Becker a Motel room with a hot tub and a pool. I think she enjoys the quiet up here as much as I do, but I know she enjoys her hot tub too LOL.

And we’re off, right after Church

Weather: Nice today, tomorrow Vacation

7am and I am pumped.  Out of here for a few days. Got the buggie loaded up on the trailer, 3/4 of a tank of gas in the truck, multiple packs of smokes, it’s dark out and we have sun glasses on. Copper country here we come.

Now some of you may see this as a vacation but I assure you that this is just an extension of my work. How else can I report back to you on conditions out there. Give you vital information on where to eat, how much ice do you need to keep your beer cold for a day, how long does it take to get to copper Harbor from Calumet? I know these are questions you want answered. So out of the kindness of our hearts Becker and I are setting out to solve these mysteries. Hopefully I will not get caught up in all the fun and I will take better pictures. See you in a few days……….

A wife told her husband to whisper her dirty things, the man then replied, “The kitchen, the living room, the bedroom and the dining room.”

ATV Trails or Bust

Weather: Nice today and Tomorrow

Trail Conditions: Mud hole on the P trail north of the Norwich use VC trail

I have the little house open for rent this winter. $100 a night for up to 3 people, $125 a night for 4-5 people with a 3 night minimum.

Headed to Calumet tomorrow after church.  Becker and I are going to drive up there and go ATVing from there a little. We are only going to have a few days away so leaving from Bergland on the SxS was out of the question.  I was kind of disappointed in the trail conditions around here this year, they did some work, like bulldozing the lower half of the P trail and running a grader down the rail grade from Bergland to Sidnaw. But the beaver dam by US2 and the IRM trail and the big mud hole up on the P trail really sucked. Especially in the year that they just raised the trail permits drastically. But what I was told is that the money collected from this years trail permits will not be available until next year. So time will tell but I think we are on the right track, it should get a lot better in the years to come.  Not what we all want to hear, but that is life.

We all want everything right now, and I know to a lot of you don’t understand why out ATV trail system is not as good as our snowmobile trail system. A few things I have found out are that unlike Wisconsin who’s forest lands are either county or state owned, most of the UP’s Forest land is Federal owned. What that means is a tree hugging group out of California can object to the Ottawa National Forest putting in an ATV trail in Bergland.

Another big obstacle we face is there are a lot of wet lands up here you don’t see when snowmobiling. A lot of the places the snowmobile trails go through would be either too wet or it would be too expensive to build bridges to go over them.

The private timber companies up here also own a lot of land, but they are warming up letting us put trails through their properties. We are building a better trail system and years to come should show what people have been working on for over 20 years. I just hope we all live to see it.

A cabbie picks up a Nun in San Francisco. She gets into the cab,
and notices that the VERY handsome cab driver won’t stop staring at her.

She asks him why he is staring. He replies: ‘I have a question to
ask, but I don’t want to offend you.’

She answers, ‘My son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as
I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to
see and hear just about everything. I’m sure that there’s nothing
you could say or ask that I would find offensive.’

‘Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.’

She responds, ‘Well, let’s see what we can do about that: #1, you
have to be single and #2, you must be Catholic.’

The cab driver is very excited and says, ‘Yes, I’m single and Catholic!’
‘OK’ the nun says. ‘Pull into the next alley.’

The nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a
hooker blush.

But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.
‘My dear child,’ said the nun, ‘Why are you crying?’

Forgive me but I’ve sinned. I lied and I must confess; I’m married and I’m Jewish.’

The nun says, ‘That’s OK. My name is Kevin and I’m going to a Halloween party.’

Screw for the Hinge

Weather: Nice

Trail Conditions: Mud hole on the P trail north of the Norwich use VC trail

I have the little house open for rent this winter. $100 a night for up to 3 people, $125 a night for 4-5 people with a 3 night minimum.

Nice weather for the next few days. Sunday can’t come quick enough, I’m ready to get out of here for a few days. Not a lot going on, Becker is still decorating the bar for the Halloween Party next Friday. Me, I’m just kicking back taking it easy. LOL Beef is coming in today, but I won’t be cooking until next week when we get back from up north. I’m bored, hungry and have nothing else to say, so I’m gonna go fix breakfast.

Bubba was fixing a door and found that he needed a new hinge, so he sent his wife, Mary Louise, to the hardware store. At the hardware store, Mary Louise saw a beautiful teapot on a top shelf while she was waiting for Bob to finish waiting on a customer. When Bob was finished, Mary Louise inquired about the cost of the teapot. “The teapot is silver and costs $100,” Bob informed her. “My goodness, that sure is a lot of money,” Mary Louise exclaimed. She then proceeded to describe the hinge that Bubba had sent her to buy, and Bob went to the backroom to find a hinge. From the backroom Bob yelled: “Mary Louise, you wanna screw for that hinge?” “No,” Mary Louise replied: “but I will for the teapot.”

Thursday today, seems like this week has 10 days in it.  I guess that always happens the week before you go on “Vacation”. It will be nice to head north for a few days. It will be slow up here for a few weeks, then deer season the middle of next month. Be nice to see a change of faces for a few weeks.

For now take a ride along Lake Superior with  Dr. Phil

Teacher: If I gave you 2 rabbits , and another 2 rabbits and another 2, how many will you have?

Johnny: Seven Sir

Teacher: No, listen carefully. If I gave you 2 rabbits , and another 2 rabbits and another 2, how many will you have?

Johnny: Seven

Teacher: Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you 2 apples, and another 2 apples and another 2, how many will you have?

Johnny: Six.

Teacher: Good. Now if I gave you 2 rabbits , and another 2 rabbits and another 2, how many will you have?

Johnny: Seven!!!

Teacher: Where the fuck do you get seven from?!?!?

Johnny: Because I fucking have 1 at home!!!

I got some good news and I got some bad news

Weather: Sunny

WTF  I ordered beef today so I could start ramping up for the season.  That is the good news. The bad news is my beef went up about 35%. Hopefully a fifty cent increase won’t deter you from stopping in and ordering a beef this year.  Oh well, beef is going to be what’s for dinner, soon anyways.  I think next Thursday I’ll be cooking.  Not everyday yet, we’ll see how things go.

Becker and I are still headed north after church Sunday. Yea that’s right I said after church.  My Mom had a mass said for my Dad before she left and it is going to be this Sunday.  Becker even offered to go with me. Way to go Pops, you got us going to church.

A Harley Biker is riding by the zoo in Washington , DC when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life.’

The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.’

The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?’

The biker replies, I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

U.S.MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

> …and THAT pretty much sums up the media’s approach to the news these days…
